Texas Brownies

Got milk! Got tea! Let’s make a treat, a big one. Isn’t everything big in Texas? My grandmother used to make these when she was around and flicking the whip! Good ole’ Texas brownie she would call them, cause in Texas everything is BIG!

I highly recommend doubling up on the recipe because the first pan will go fast!


  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 squares unsweetened chocolate
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • pinch salt
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla
  • 1 cup flour, sifted
  • 1 cup chopped nut

Ingredients (Icing)

  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla


  1. Melt butter and chocolate over hot water in the double boiler and set aside to cool.
  2. Beat eggs and add sugar, salt and vanilla. Add cooled chocolate mixture. Fold in flour and chopped nuts
  3. pour into greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan. Bake at 350° for 45 minutes over a pan of hot water.
  4. Pour icing over brownies, cool and cut into squares.

Directions (Icing)

  1. Combine all ingredients except vanilla and boil 1 minute.
  2. Add vanilla and beat a few minutes.
  3. Pour over brownies.
